CKE Wedding Day: Getting Ready

February 21, 2023

Getting ready has become such an important, memorable part of the wedding days here at Crossed Keys Estate. The morning-of sets the day’s tone (and often, the timing), so creating a positive atmosphere is essential. Our New Jersey wedding venue offers two locations for “getting ready,” the Playhouse and the Pequest Parlor. Both sites are located just far enough away from each other (so there’s no worry of seeing one another!) but directly on the grounds with easy access to all other wedding day locations.

The Playhouse, typically our bridal suite, is where the Bride and her party begin the day. Natural lighting and access to outlets also make for a favorite location of makeup artists and hairstylists. While the Groom may choose the Pequest Parlor, where a putting green and corn hole games are easily accessible just out through the back door. However, both spaces are gender-neutral, and we love seeing them utilized in different ways.

The Playhouse

The historical Playhouse is located conveniently next to the ceremony space. With big windows, natural light spills into the room even on cloudy days. Share a drink around the table or lounge on the sofa with your girls, this space has room for even the largest of bridal parties. There are stations set conveniently for hair + makeup, with plenty of outlets for tools. The Playhouse overlooks the garden and ceremony space, so you’ll see as the day progresses.

Once pampering is complete, the Playhouse becomes a beautiful space to step into your wedding day attire. The natural lighting makes for the best portraits. On rainy days, couples have even opted to share a first look here as well.

Just outside the doors of the Playhouse is an almost complete view of the grounds. Take photos outside with your party, or maybe take a quick stroll around the property before the big day begins!

Pequest Parlor

The Pequest Parlor is located at the top of the Crossed Keys Estate grounds. This location has access to a patio that overlooks the putting green and meadow. A favorite of grooms, the Pequest Parlor is relaxing with a leather sofa and big screen tv. These additions make it easy to gather around and enjoy drinks with your party before the day kicks off. Or keep up the good energy by hitting the putting green. Then, when it’s time to get dressed, add finishing touches in our full-length mirror, perfect for portraits.
